Balriel Pax looked down at the empty streets from the heights of the palace window. The wind whistled through the spires above him. A hawk cried mournfully in the blue skies above the polished stones of an empty city. Holding his chin, the newly crowned King shook his head.
Suddenly, Balriel felt electricity surging about in the direction of the throne room behind him. While some may fear such an event, the king was all to aware and used to it. He closed his eyes and sighed.
With a thunderous crash and the crackle of sparks the beautiful ancient, Lyris appeared. Her long brown hair swirled about magically as if she were emersed in water. Her blue dress flowed about her perfectly formed goddess-like body. Her eyes sparkled with energy and power as she regarded the king with a playful smirk.
"Hail King Pax!" She declared and bowed grandly.
The king grunted. He did not turn to look upon the beautiful ancient, but kept his gaze on the empty city below. "King of what?" He asked after a moment.
Lyris glided next to Balriel, looked over the stone wall and saw the silent city for herself. She smiled. "This is the first moment…every adventure begins with that very first moment. Every city that ever stood begins with a first moment. That moment is always lonely and silent."
"How long does that moment last, exactly?" Balriel asked.
Lyris laughed. "I admire your eagerness. Not to worry, your grace, they are coming. Soon you will hear the chatter of voices, the sound of the metal forge clanging and the cry of victory. Someday you will miss this moment and mourn the loss of its silence. This is a city of war, war is noisy."
"How do I start then?" The king asked.
"You already have, your grace," Lyris declared. She leaned toward him and placed an electric kiss upon his cheek. "It will begin with four. New, barely tested, but with the will, might and heart of dragons. Like you they want for nothing but to rise and crush the ruin around them. You will make them lords and ladies and together the Imperium will rise like a great storm that sweeps this land clean. I have foreseen it, therefore it will be so."
Lyris patted the king on the back then suddenly leaped from the balcony. With a flash of lightning the beautiful ancient vanished from sight leaving the king to ponder further in silence.
It begins
Two Ladies and Two Lords Join the King
Barely tested but with the will, might and heart of a dragon
Together…the Imperium rises like a great storm on the horizon
So mote it be!
